I finished ATOM RPG not too long ago was looking for a new RPG to play. So far I’ve read the Disco Elysium : Beginner’s Guide on Steam but I was wondering if there was anything else I should be aware of.

I will be playing on the Steam Deck. I don’t think that matters much because according to ProtonDB the game works fine.

Also I was curious if it has any of the issues like I had playing LA Noire where you are occasionally stuck looking for a needle in a haystack or running into ambiguous dialogue that where you can fail and it prevents you from progressing with a character or situation. I am less worried about the latter because it seems to have a system where you can save anywhere and dialogue options are written out instead of LA Noire’s prompt system.

Don’t worry about minmaxing or failing. You can’t fail in a way that permanently blocks off progression and if you want to you can savescum the non-repeatable checks but they’re not necessary.

In my opinion, this type of game is best enjoyed by just picking whatever speaks to you in terms of skills, dialogue choices etc and only using online help when you’re really stuck which shouldn’t be often if you take your time exploring the world and interacting with the characters.

This is good advice. Do not be afraid to fail there is sometimes better storytelling from fails. But make sure you think about doing a red checks before proceeding. Sometimes you’ll need to talk to characters multiple times or come back to them later and there are a few things that might not be obvious at all. Once you get a few hours in the progression will make more sense. Recommend playing went you have the patience to read. It is a lot of reading but great dialogue a novel disguised as a video game.

      Thanks for the tip.

I wish more games took that approach. Most of the time it just feels outright punishing

Put more than a single point into Psyche and Physique on your first playthrough, unless you’re okay with the protagonist being frustratingly fragile.

Aside from that, build your character however you want. I fully agree with what the others say about going with the flow and failing forward. You don’t need to minmax.
