  • It’s a dopamine versus serotonin issue. People think they want to be happy, but that longing is more for purpose. Eating ice cream can make you happy, but learning to cook your own meals makes you a more component being able to provide for yourself and those around you.

Most modern luxuries are basically Skinner boxes at this point monetized in some way to keep us staring at it or consuming it.

We doom scroll at the expense of relationship building.

We door dash instead of have community gardens.

Instant gratification isn’t always and intrinsically bad, but the more the default it becomes, the less patient and competent people become.

Then you pile on decades of American exceptionalism and actively encouraging selfishness at the expense of a functioning society and the present state of things is hardly surprising.

  • In short, Kant said people should be the goal, not the means.

It’s ok to make yourself dinner.

It’s ok to make your friend dinner because you want to make them happy.

It’s not ok to make your friend dinner because you want to have sex with them.

It’s not ok to make your friend make you dinner because you don’t want to cook.

Every facet of capitalism is exploitation by design as profit is unpaid labor. However classless socialism isn’t automatically devoid of exploitation.

None of us asked to be here. I certainly don’t want to be here anymore. Placing the value of a life upon the imaginary lines it landed between, how much money it’s parents had, or the color of it’s skin are all pretty fucked up.

  • Lol. Welcome to chasing a pipe dream or crippling depression.

The answer is largely as simple as socialism plus Kant with some secular Jesus because any system that condones human exploitation will eventually implode due to psychopaths’ willingness to sacrifice others for power.

But literally basically everything is done wrong to maximize exploitation. Housing, schooling, medicine, food… All fucked to make the richest richer.

Liberalism is the slow road to fascism.

  • It’s a matter of conceptualizing violence.

A medieval siege was a battle of attrition. Encircle the castle and just starve them out.

Is this violence even if no one was stabbed and everyone starved?

Wage suppression and inflation are ultimately the same battle of attrition wherein the working class is pushed into poverty. Wage theft from employers is as much as 80% of all theft in the US.

I’ve never seen a fucking corporation in handcuffs and yet they’re still people with tax breaks and infinite political contributions. Odd coincidence.

  • Some of this is objective. Some is just nostalgia.

You can still download music and play wow. On this front you probably miss simpler times when you weren’t aware of problems you are now or resent responsibilities that took you from things you enjoyed and make you feel old.

On the other hand, society globally is markedly worse than before COVID with substantial right-wing shifts.

Unfortunately, end of days accelerationists and techno fascist billionaires have been working quite hard to make the world a worse place for several decades…

So I largely agree. Personally, in terms of skills and assets, I’m in a much better place than I was 2000 years ago. However, in terms of happiness and hope for the future… I actually still had some then.

  • This isn’t a problem unique to gaming, but most issues will unfortunately ultimately reduce to her derp capitalism.

Gachas get kids hooked on gambling for profit

Battle passes are fomo to maximize retention and attention for profit.

Ai to cut labor… For profit.

Recycling content on yearly release. Profit.

The central issue you’re looking for is “fiduciary duty to shareholders” wherein publicly traded companies have a legal obligation to act in the best interest of “shareholders”.

The issue there is 80% of those companies are owned by the banks that own the Fed that are ultimately owned by Black Rock. 1000000173

Even if “you” (average Joe) paid for stock, you don’t actually own it unless it’s directly registered in your name which broker held street name shares are not.

Every cut corner on a product or wage labor benefit withheld is shuttled to the rich that already own everything.
