Hi! I found it on my lunch. it’s definitely not a perfect comparison but I personally think there’s enough data to make some useful generalizations.

I’ve seen this claim twice now in this thread that WD bought Seagate; and I’m not saying you’re wrong, bit I legitimately don’t see this info anywhere online and I’m pretty sure neither owns the other.
Mind, I’m on mobile so it’s hard to verify things but, I suspect there’s some confusion here.
My understanding is that it’s a relatively recent issue, maybe last 5 or so years? WD is currently leading the pack if I remember correctly.
This is the website im referring to btw. You happened to catch me on my lunch so I could go find it. They have lots of stats, and it’s not like it covers 100% of drives but personally I still think it’s useful and you can draw some general conclusions from it.

I’m at work so I’m sorry for not being able to provide a source, but there’s a website that tracks hard drive failure rates and Seagate is consistently one of the worst brands. So there’s some extra facts for you.
Echoing all of this.
I almost never have to deal with angry men, and, when they are frustrated I often get lots of “I’m sorry it’s not you, I’m late for work.” style comments.
Fucking same.
I don’t want to hate them, but how could I do anything but hate people who voted for the fascist nazi in charge of the US?
Thanks! I used reddit for years, then I went to lemmy.world after the whole migration stuff. I learned about db0 way back then due to my interests in piracy, but I had already created a .world account. I decided recently, that I should care more about where I am online and what I post there, so I’ve been slowly in the process of getting rid of all the shit social medias I’ve held onto for years. While I don’t think there’s anything particularly wrong with lemmy.world, I figured I should go all in on this move.
So I’m super new to this instance, like literally applied last night new.
Personally, I’m happy that people are trying to ban x/twitter. The links suck to use if you don’t have an account, and the platform is becoming increasingly toxic.
I do like the compromise of allowing screenshots too; however, I also am recognizing that there’s a higher risk of faked screenshots leading to misinformation. I suspect there would be very little in truth, but hopefully it is at least worth considering.
It’s kinda crazy to me because let’s say you do want to be the most beloved person on earth AND you have more money than anyone ever, you could do that?
Like at one point musk said if there was a plan to end world hunger in 6 billion dollars he would do it, and of course he didn’t… But if he did, a small fraction of his infinite wealth would be gone, but people would have loved him.
If, Tesla actually produced a fully self-driving electric car that was better and cheaper than anything else, he’d have even more fans than he currently does.
If, he actually created high speed mass transit, instead of whatever the fucking “hyperloop” thing he made is.
He could have done probably all of this for the price of twitter, but nah instead he had to go be a nazi.
Doing like even half this list would make him beloved by the average person who isn’t too interested in him. They’d see all the good he does and say “That’s what a billionaire should be.” and not do any digging. It’s honestly batshit insane to me that someone can say “everyone hates me and it makes me sad but I’m not going to do anything about this because clearly they are the ones that are wrong.”
Like how do you fuck it up so bad. The first time I heard of the guy I bought into that “elon musk is ironman” persona thing, and now he’s just a crazed nazi I want nothing to do with.
