I’m not a fan of this longstanding thing where articles have headlines like the last sentence in the chapter of a YA novel. I feel it’s an underdiscussed aspect of the dumbing down of news and politics discourse. Everything has to be comminicated in this epic movie poster, self contained “boom. That just happened” style and I hate it

The pardons are definitely going to embolden the Freikorps to do more riots and more murders. Trump just demonstrated that if you act in his name you can get pardoned for it.

But like, Trump doesn’t actually give a shit about them. I doubt he’s actually going to pardon them if they get themselves arrested again unless it’s really popular.

    So, mixed bag I guess.

If my understanding of Trump is correct, I believe he 100% would pardon someone for doing some illegal act in his name, so long as it’s not against one of his allies or maybe even against anyone in the ruling class.

He doesn’t give a shit about the person themselves, but he cares about his image and “looking strong”. He is playing into the aesthetics of fascism, while not really understanding what fascism is (e.g. interlinked with capitalism)

He already pardoned the proud boy leadership that was in prison for their January 6 roles

I figured he wouldn’t do it because he thinks they’re losers for failing their January 6 objective but here we are

They’d have to do something really spectacular to even get his attention, something on the level of storming the capitol.

I have a feeling they’ll start small and he’ll just totally ignore them.

The point of the pardons is to send a signal for more vigilantes to take action, not to protect or create alliances. He will deploy pardons insofar as it communicates something.

Fuck, you just reminded me how I originally found /r/cth. I went to see if there was an /r/proudboys subreddit in around 2018(?) and there was, but it was entirely populated with leftist irony shitposters who were pretending it was a subreddit for proud trans men. Read through a couple posters’ histories and found the cth sub, and the rest is history.

Intelligence is not necessary for success of these orgs, persistence in doing recruitment related work is. Everyone says they want to grow an org but very few people actually step up and do the work needed to do it, orgs live and die by the members responsible for their growth leaving them. Identifying those individuals and effectively removing them from orgs is the same as killing an org in the longterm.

Hyper masculinity turned fascist instead of art. Some of them could have been great fitness influencers.
