    These people never ever explain what’s wrong with the thing they are against, they just gesture toward some vaguely defined feeling they have that change is bad and they want to make the world as simplistic as they thought it was when they were children.

      “Lotsa people don’t know this but in the bible when you were bad - people threw rocks at you and you died. People who make fun of me are bad. You know what to do… So you should throw rocks at them until they die.”

      I realized the final sentence was all wrong. It was Trump 1.0 and even though Trump has only been president 10 days - are deep into the Trump 2.0 Universe. He thinks nothing he can do or say will ever get him in trouble. And he’s 100% right.

    I became an adult in the 1980s and I remember learning about the right-wing and seeing shit like that and thinking “Holy fuck - the fundies are dangerous, deluded freaks!” And the average America had similar thoughts but probably much more polite thoughts. And now ~40 years it melts my brain that the fundies are far more powerful and far more dangerous than any time in my life time.

    The article is nonsense of course - but this is good…

    In America, it wasn’t legal for women to wear pants in public until 1923, because it was considered wrong for a woman to wear men’s clothing (and vice versa). This idea was influenced by the Old Testament verse Deuteronomy 22:5: “The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God.”

    The belief that pants are masculine-coded has persisted into the 21st century. The first woman to wear pants for a portrait in the White House was Hillary Clinton in 2004. The first woman to wear pants in the Senate was in 1989. Still, women were not permitted to wear pants on the U.S. Senate floor until two female senators defiantly entered wearing pants in 1993 and forced the rule to be amended later that year.

        I posted a Bluesky thing by Patton Oswalt who is really angry about Gaza. Angry as in - people didn’t vote for Kamala because of Gaza. In the comments somebody linked to a Youtube vid of a vid he did when Obama was president. Not only was he clearly over the moon about Obama many of his jokes were sour and third-rate when he made bashed republican voters. He said the n-word too.

        I’m no fan of republican voters but if in the future leftist candidates somehow make huge gains on a federal level and the GOP lost big plus I was a standup comic - I wouldn’t bash GOP voters. I’m feeling grand, they lost, and politics isn’t sports so why do it?

      There still are judges (in the US) who won’t allow women lawyers to wear pants in their courtroom . Obviously not a lot of them left but enough that dress skirts are a mandatory part of the wardrobe for female attorneys.

      oh yeah, can corroborate as a GNC cis(ish) woman that the rise in transphobic fearmongering over the last decade has resulted in a really noticeable escalation of harassment for me too

      you can’t actually misgender me in any way that matters, but every “sir, uh, I mean, ma’am” I get feels way more potentially dangerous these days than it did ten years ago

      Trans liberation is so so so important for everyone
