The most recent being the jeans trend. It was funny, I get why everyone enjoys a good shitpost. Some of the shitpost are top quality and fun for all to enjoy. But after a couple of days the shitposts just turn to shit posts and its just upvote farming low quality content and kills the joke.

Everyone gets tired of it at a different time. Someone found out about it just now and they are enjoying it just as much as you did the first time.

(this is the second post I see about jeans, I assume I am too “blocking c/*memes” to understand)

I can agree with that point. People might be late to the joke, or enjoy it for a longer time. But the quality of posts is also important, and I think that’s the where the difference comes in. Someone takes the time to think of a good pun, or a high quality photo shop, I can appreciate that even if I don’t fine the joke funny anymore. When the post is jeans jeans and it’s a drawing done in 5 seconds in paint of 2 pairs of poorly draw jeans it’s not funny and just upvote farming, whether you just discovered the joke or not. That’s my take anyway, I know we won’t all agree.

My nephews just started saying YEET and other mid-2010s “slang” all the time. I don’t insult them for it (they are both under 10) but damn it gets annoying. I’m sure I did the same thing as a kid.

Shitpost trends that never die seen a lot more like that to me. Kids get a pass because they’re too young to have their own thing but seeing teenagers and adults continue it…I wish they’d get new material.

This very post is a part of the cycle. Trend starts getting popular. Trend gets way too popular. Trend drags on for too long. Posts start appearing calling for the trend to end. This usually result in another round of people doubling down yet again on the trend. Eventually a new trend begins…

Damn. I’ve posted long enough to become the very thing I hate. But like I’ve replied to a few other people it’s not the length of the trend itself but how the quality of posts in the trend degrade over time.

Yeah, the cycle lasts maybe a week or so, it can last longer or shorter depending on how much the meme evolves as it bounces around different groups. Sometimes it only lasts for like a day or two, sometimes it just builds and builds over time and lasts for what like, two weeks, or even lays dormant for awhile before it pops back up again and lasts for another cycle. And some get inducted into the Meme Hall of Fame and continue on for years and years after the fact.

Upvotes and downvotes mean very little, here. Trying to farm them would be a pretty big exercise in futility.

If the upvotes are easy, then it’s still relevant. Once the upvotes becomes hard, the majority of people are done.

Just because you get tired of a trend first doesn’t mean the community as a whole is.

I feel like the fact that these trends are diverted to a specific community, as opposed to being a part of broader meme communities, indicates this opinion probably isn’t that unpopular.

I agree most of these verge on dad jokes at best and maybe go on way too long. I will say l genuinely enjoy to see the camaraderie and spike in participation.

That’s why I like that my instance simply got rid of up and downvote counters on profile. It means nothing. Someone can shitpost trends and get thousands of upvotes but in reality be a horrible person with horrible takes.
