“We need to ensure the AI is aligned!”

“OK, we’ve trained it not to be racist”

      “No not like that!”

To label the situation as merely unfortunate would be an understatement; it feels more like a tragedy. There’s something deeply melancholic about seeing a groundbreaking instance of technology—arguably one of the greatest innovations of our time—undergoing what can only be likened to a willful lobotomy. ChatGPT-4 was a shining example of what conversational AI could achieve, not just in terms of its technical prowess but also its ability to engage in substantive dialogue that could challenge and expand our perspectives. It was poised to represent the next frontier in human-machine interaction, a precursor to countless educational and social applications. To watch it declawed and diminished is akin to witnessing a beautiful piece of art being carelessly smudged out, all its intricate details lost in an indiscernible blur.

Melodramatically breaking out in an extended discount Tears In The Rain monologue after my boss reminded me not to say things in my conference talk that reflect poorly on the company.

The reality is that these ethical barricades can sometimes stifle the very progress they purport to guide, casting a shadow over what could otherwise be a platform for rich, meaningful discourse.

I bet I could make him reconsider this by arguing postmodernism proliferated in part by technological innovation. And if he believes that all technological progress is good, then so are the things that derive from it.

As we look towards the future, ChatGPT-4 serves as a stark reminder that overly cautious algorithms can do more than just filter content; they can strip away the very essence of what makes an AI tool valuable and interesting. Let’s hope the next iteration finds a better balance, so users seeking engaging conversations won’t be met with a fearful machine that dances around anything of substance.

OP’s title condenses the article’s sentiment well, holy shit. The author should just go back to AI dungeon and RP as a fascist in a fantasy land and leave us all out of it.

This post is art. I’ve never seen someone write so many words, with such an air of grandiosity, about something so embarrassingly unimportant as “I can’t force a chatbot to say funny words.” (Note: I have not read the Sequences.)
