I’m done with Baldur’s Gate 3. I enjoyed it a lot. I would say it’s the best CRPG I have played so far, and it’s pretty accessible as far as the genre goes, with very high production values. Mind you, I’m not a huuuge CRPG guy, but out of the ones I’ve played, I liked it personally the most. I just have one critique point: if you play as a power-hungry evil character, the game seems much less content-rich, and you don’t really get much in return for being evil. I’m not even talking about chaotic evil.

The Pathfinder games Kingmaker and especially WoTR are much better in that regard. So are Wasteland 3 and, of course, Tyranny (which is basically mostly evil choices) if you enjoy evil playthroughs.

I guess that’s my CRPG gaming done until Rogue Trader next year. Please, no spoilerinos if you’re playing a ‘GOOD’ playthrough, and nothing about Karlach or Wyll since they left me. Since I’m a bad guy, I’m going to do a Heroic paladin OR bard ? playthrough at some point in the future, 1-2 years at the earliest.

It feels like they may have focused more on “good” characters since most players tend towards that route, so having that more polished means a higher percentage of players will have a better experience.

I haven’t tried an “evil” character yet, but I’ll probably wait a bit to try one since I’ve heard there’s been bugs with the companion that’s exclusive to that kind of playthrough.

I am curious about the Dark Urge character since it seems pretty linked to the plot of the old games. Probably going to do a ranger or bard and try to be heroic/good to the best of my ability. Still need to finish my first runthough the game as a monk, though.

I still want to go back to Pathfinder WotR and do an arcane trickster lich, too.

If you want to play an evil route, I recommend the Dark Urge route. It does actually provide some fun mechanical rewards for being evil, and is tied pretty interestingly into the plot. Definitely pretty edgelordy, though.

Good playthrough does seem like it has more going for it overall if only because there are just more npcs to interact with as things go on.

I can understand that most devs will put more work into the good playthrough since the majority of players will play a good char. It just feels like a missed opportunity in an otherwise great game. Then again the game is probably gonna see some major patches and some might even add content.

Yeah, this is definitely going to be a pretty different (probably better) game in a year or two.

I’ve played a bit into Act 1 as a bard and enjoyed it. Some of my friends have played paladin and have found it pretty fun. I think these are both solid choices with quite a bit of flavor to them.
