I assumed it was just “hire more LGBTQIA+ prison guards!” so-true

It’s worse than that. What I’ve seen recently because of federation is “(verbal performative) support for disadvantaged people as long as they maintain a successful small business in a disadvantaged area for no less than three years and aren’t anywhere to the left of Bernie Sanders!”

Hey, did you know that Republicans are, in fact, liberals? When we dunk on liberals, we don’t mean “people with progressive social views,” we have more progressive social views than the overwhelming majority of so-called Liberals. We are primarily referring to economic liberalism, the ideology which upholds and advances capitalism. Occasionally, we are expressing frustration with neoliberals, the current ruling ideology which has subsumed politics in the west and encompasses both the Democrats and Republicans.

Not like “people with progressive social views” dont harbor horrendous views because they havent completely shaken out things like racism, classism, or homophobia because getting that far means they’ll leave the warmth and comfort of their baby ideology they’ve known for so long and finally notice the bodies their comforts were built on top of

Conservatives are liberals. Liberals are liberals. Libertarians are liberals. Neoliberals are liberals.

Liberalism has a storied, specific history. It is essentially support for capitalism combined with a set of other policies.

The modern, politico shorthand liberal/conservative dichotomy is an oversimplification, represents a split in opinions among liberals, and demonstrates the the narrowness of the Overton window, although “conservatives” can often lean toward fascism and democratic socialists are sometimes lumped in as “liberals” as well. Hell, right wingers call communism liberalism. That doesn’t make it true.

This instance is constantly talking about the rise of fascism. However, like much of leftist thought, many believe that the ineptitude of capitalist, liberal parties and their policies, especially when they are positioned as “leftist”, actually help give rise to fascism.

For example, the modern dominant strain is neoliberalism, which was actually first made popular by Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, and Alan Greenspan. However, neoliberlism has been continued by Clinton, Obama, and Biden. See the rise and support of charter schools in Democrat led cities, NAFTA, etc.

The rise of neoliberalism has coincided with the death of unionism and the stark increase in inequality since the 70s in e the US.

Also, most liberals, like conservatives, are opposed to socialism, which is seen by leftists as the most definitive obstacle to fascism. See the 2020 Democratic primary where all but Bernie Sanders were eager and quick to reaffirm their support and belief in capitalism and attempted to smear Sanders for his socialist beliefs.

This is also a safe space for leftists, and leftists are often most frustrated with modern “liberals” as you know them (i.e. Democrats, Blairite Labour, etc) because while they should ostensibly be allies in many situations, they are often the biggest obstacle in our way, demanding we stand down and acquiesce to capitalist policies, and talk down to us smugly and condescendingly.

We already all know we detest fascists and “conservatives” and Republicans. We vent about them too. But “liberals” often get our ire in our spaces because of the above.

That doesn’t mean we work toward conservative goals.

You coming in her and making that accusation to begin with demonstrates just how remarkably ignorant you are.

Liberal doesn’t mean what you think it means to most of the world. Sure, in the United States, lots of ignorant people like you bought into the “conservatives vs liberals” propaganda, but that’s really part of liberalism: ignorance pretending to be knowledge.

I really think we’re constantly saying shit about it. If you need more material, I like this video by Second Thought: Why American Fascism is on the Rise. Yes, the Republicans are openly fascist and bigoted, and we don’t support them.

It is true, weird conservatives were really mad at the Barbie movie. So you made this point because you already convinced yourself a priori that we were MAGA Trump guys, I guess. But … we’re just not, and I can’t make that any clearer. You’ll probably find most people here that watched it thought the movie was really fun.

If you guys aren’t trump supporters.

The fact that we don’t do “le Cheeto mosquito Mussolini has tiny hands and IS GAY, he’s definitely going to jail! And he’s going to be abused in there lol” doesn’t mean we’re trump supporters.
To most users here, there is no difference between Trump and Biden they are about equally reprehensible. Trump highlighted how the people voting for Dems don’t actually give a shit about what is done, as long as the person doing it wears a suit and tones down their slurs a little bit. Trump highlighted how absurd the whole system is.
Users on this site are sick of the whole system, they think it’s rotten, but there’s also an attitude of powerlessness - to an extent. Since we can’t make America balkanize immediately, we can either choose to laugh or cry at the absurdity. That’s also why you’ll se discussions of Trump being incarcerated not taken seriously - we know it’s never going to happen.
That’s also why there’s an extent of giddiness that Ron Desantis is losing - He had the backing of the media apparatus for quite some time, despite being a clear-cut fascist.

You claim to be Marxists, yet you never say shit about the rise of Fascism in America.

We barely do anything else, you just don’t want to see it because it would challenge your incredibly narrow worldview. Easier for you to sling baseless accusations around than to do some self crit.

Where are the “Republicans this, Republicans that” posts?

Republicans are liberals you dolt. If you wanna engage in discussions of politics, please acquire a base-level understanding of what the terms you use mean.

hahahaha I’ll actually try to explain this. As many people have explained we consider both conservatives and liberals “liberals” for a number of historical and political reasons. So we just complain about “libs” and it’s really just referring to, pretty much everyone in the political landscape who’s not a socialist. We especially like when chuds stumble upon our site and try to make some epic “trigger the libs” post, and we just call them a liberal until they throw a temper tantrum about how they’re not.

There is a bit of confusion I guess because many of us are Americans and so will switch between using that liberal/conservative American political dichotomy, where liberal refers to social progressives and conservative refers to social conservatives, and using “liberal” in it’s more historical and political sense, pretty frequently. It’s really just context I guess.

The rise of fascism in America is extremely concerning for us, but because our culture came out of the so-called “dirtbag left” of 2016 we tend to be pretty irreverent about most things. We also consider liberals (yes, liberals in your sense of the word, referring to Democrats and other non-socialist social progressives) to be complicit in the rise of fascism due to their focus on things like bipartisanship and compromise. We don’t believe there can be any compromise with fascists and believe they should be opposed everywhere they pop up, so usually won’t give any praise to Democrats who seem content to sit back and talk about “bipartisanship” while, as you say, fascism rises. That’s getting into it a little without going on too much. There’s more, like how both parties are bourgeois parties and so there is little difference between them which is also why we won’t praise liberals (again, your sense).

Also, the only people who got mad about Barbie here were people who decried it as an elaborate toy commercial, and there was actually a lot of praise for the movie on our site.

edit: I think you also have to understand that most of the people on Lemmy that we disagree with right now are liberals, there’s not a whole lot of chuds, which is why we’re so extremely focused on liberals. Many of us also thought we were going to federate and finally be posting together with fellow travelers, like the folks over at lemmygrad, but then the reddit exodus happened and Lemmy became saturated with Reddit liberalism, so we’re also focused on liberals because of that.

The US has always been a horrid settler colonial/imperialist hellhole, but I think it’s a step too far to say that the US has always been fascist, or even ever has been, only because fascism is best viewed as a reaction to a powerful revolutionary left wing movement, and we’ve arguably never really had one of those in the US. Even at the height of the US left’s power and legitimacy, I don’t think you can really say it was in a position to seriously challenge capital.

But then again, fascism has always been a concept whose terms are a bit tricky to pin down, so this disagreement could very well just be a me problem.

“relating to or denoting a political and social philosophy that promotes individual rights, civil liberties, democracy, and free enterprise.”

Republicans are liberals. democrats are liberals.
